Balcatta - Irma Lachmund

Irma Lachmund

Irma Lachmund

Irma is concerned about the growing gap between the rich and the poor, especially about the dire situation of pensioners in the electorate. Irma would like to see tenants’ rights strengthened and the provision of affordable housing become a major focus of government initiative to reduce the growing public housing waiting list.

The other big issue for Irma is the provision of adequate health services, including preventative health, mental health services and the support of carers. Irma is also concerned about the threat to urban bush land and she advocates moving away from the dependence of oil through the generation of alternative energy and smart public transport.

In the three past years she has been working as Research Officer for Giz Watson MLC, assessing Bills and providing general research in the field of justice, housing, consumer protection, and multiculturalism. Irma previously worked at Edith Cowan University, the Tenants Advice Service and the WA Ombudsman.

Irma was educated as a German lawyer. In 2002 she completed a Master of Laws in Comparative Law Degree from Darwin University. She also has qualifications in small business management, workplace assessment and training and as a human rights educator.

Irma has been living in the North Metro region for 10 years. As a migrant from Germany, Irma quickly developed strong links with the local community. Irma shops at Northlands in Balcatta and takes her partner who has Parkinson’s Disease to the Osborne Park Hospital for regular treatment and to community physiotherapy sessions at the Osborne Park Community Centre.

Irma has two bilingual children who attend public school programs in Balcatta. Being passionate about the maintenance of the mother tongue Irma founded the association “Bilingual Families Perth” that provides support for families from culturally diverse backgrounds. Irma grows her own vegies, makes her own compost and just bought a water tank for her rented property.

She believes we urgently need Greens in Parliament to make a stand for our children’s future.
